This would be BandLab’s second acquisition in a year
BandLab, a Singaporean company that allows musicians to collaborate with one another over the cloud, has announced today it has acquired London-based music livestreaming service Chew.tv.
Chew, which was launched in 2015, focusses on livestreaming DJ performances. The platform has over 380,000 users and over 130,000 hours of content.
The acquisition of Chew will allow content creators on BandLab to livestream their performances to its database of almost two million users. Chew will continue as a separate service, rebranded as “Chew by BandLab”.
“Chew by BandLab” will continue to run its platform as a free service, but will also offer a premium subscription option for the community’s creators, which includes stream forwarding, on-demand archiving and more.
“Performing live has always been one of the most important parts of being a musician and has never been more important. As an extension of that, it’s extremely important for us to be able to digitally support creators and musicians who want to bring their live performances to the world,” said Meng Ru Kuok, BandLab’s CEO and Co-Founder, in an official press statement.

“Partnering with BandLab guarantees both expert support for our incredible users, but also ensures the continuation of our vision for vibrant community of DJs and musicians sharing their creative processes live,” said Chew’s Co-founder and CEO Wil Benton.
Founded in 2015, BandLab claimed that over 10,000 songs are created on its platform every day.
Last year, BandLab acquired San Francisco-based design studio MONO Creators Inc., it then bought a 49 per cent stake in iconic American pop culture magazine Rolling Stone, shortly after.
