The initiative is led by LTA and BlueSG, a French transportation company
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced it will roll out the country’s first islandwide electric car-sharing programme in partnership with BlueSG, a subsidiary of French transportation company Bolloré Group which runs electric car-sharing programmes across major cities worldwide, such as Paris, Los Angeles, Torino and London.
BlueSG will provide LTA with both the electric cars and charging stations. 30 charging stations and 80 Bluecars are expected to be deployed in December. The charging stations will offer a total of 120 charging points and will be located in the following towns:
1. Ang Mo Kio
2. Bishan
3. Bukit Merah
4. Choa Chu Kang
5. Hougang
6. Jurong East
7. Jurong West
8. Pasir Ris
9. Punggol
10. Queenstown
11. Sembawang
12. Sengkang
13. Toa Payoh
14. Tampines
15. Woodlands
16. Yishun
BlueSG is expected to roll out a total of 500 charging stations, offering 2,000 charging points, eventually. With its help, LTA plans to form a 1,000 electric vehicle fleet. BlueSG’s service will be available to anyone over the age 21, as long as they have a valid driver’s license.

On a related note, BlueSG officially launched its APAC headquarters in Singapore today. It will oversee e-mobility, energy management and system integration business for the region. By the end of the year, the HQ will have 30 employees, comprising of customer service representatives, technical staff, on-field technicians, and IT support specialists.
BlueSG will also establish an R&D centre to improve its energy management and mobility solutions. By 2021, the company plans to create 250 jobs in Singapore.
“The opening of BlueSG’s regional headquarters in Singapore marks an important milestone, bringing us one step closer to a more sustainable and efficient transport system. When launched in December, BlueSG’s one-way car-sharing service will play an integral part in achieving our car-lite vision, providing the public with another convenient option for point-to-point transport, and reducing reliance on private vehicles,” said LTA’s Chief Technology Officer, Lam Wee Shann, in an official press release.
“This new project represents a strategic development for the Bolloré group and we are committed to making Singapore the second largest EV car-sharing service worldwide after Paris,” said Marie Bolloré, Managing Director at Blue Solutions.
