Singaporean deep tech firm Dathena announced today the official opening of its US headquarters, located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. The launch of the office was meant to grow and support existing North American customers, according to a press statement.

The US headquarters will primarily focus on the financial and healthcare sectors.

Founded by risk management expert Christopher Muffat, Dathena uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to offers tools to help companies prevent data loss, govern data, and meet employees’ demands for cloud-based tools.

Since 2016, the entity has established its presence in Singapore, Thailand, France, Switzerland and now in the US.

“North America is one of our fastest growing and most important markets,” said Muffat.

“Our new Manhattan headquarters will enable us to expand our business, monitor and respond promptly to the evolving needs of our customers, and cement our position as the global leader in AI-based data-protection platform,” he continued.

The company is also planning to hire a local team of 15 people across sales, customer success and marketing functions, to further develop manpower in the region.

The data protection market is valued at US$120 billion, claims the company. The US has already seen significant data breaches occur in the past. MarketWatch, a financial news company reported that data breaches escalated from 1,257 from last year to 1,473 in 2019, making North America a good target market for the company.

In the past, the company said it has also helped other corporates achieve a 30 per cent decrease in data management costs and managed to reduce 80 per cent in data security operations spend. Clients include more than 27 global enterprises across a range of industries.

Dathena has also raised an undisclosed funding round on March 2019 led by MS&AD Ventures Inc., with participation from existing investors CerraCap Ventures and Demetis.
