Viddsee inked a deal with IMDA to produce five public service stories in 2018

Viddsee, a Singaporean startup that distributes regional short films, will start exploring the production of original content through the launch of Viddsee Studios.

As part of the new shop, Viddsee has inked a partnership with the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) to become a ‘public service content’ production studio. The partnership already has a lineup of five stories slated for 2018.

Viddsee Studios will be Headed by a local Singaporean film creator named Kenny Tan. Prior to Viddsee, Tan worked as a Senior Producer for Mediacorp.

“In line with our mission of empowering storytellers, this is an exciting evolution as we move from curation to creation, for both our company and community of content creators,” said Viddsee Co-founder and CEO Ho Jia Jian in a statement.

Viddsee will continue its core business of content curation and distribution — a business model that has generated over 1 billion views.

The company has become a go-to place for people to view independent films that tell localised stories across Southeast Asia. The films can be as short as two-minutes or as long as 20. They touch on topics like religion, love, animation and even socially sensitive topics like abortion.

In late-October, Viddsee was one of 30 companies welcomed into the Unilever Foundry programme. Last May, the company signed a deal with A + E Networks Asia to curate and broadcast a weekly show for the network.
