The Mobile Connect authentication platform allows customers to forgo multiple username and passwords
Singtel, Starhub and M1 customers will soon be able to log in to a range of apps without providing a username or password; thanks to the implementation of the Mobile Connect authentication platform, all they will need is their mobile phone number.
EZ-Link, FOX Networks Group, HungryGoWhere, NETS payment gateway, Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH), Singtel Dash, and WTS Travel websites and apps, will be among the first services to provide this login option.
The telcos first announced the adoption of this new GSMA authentication standard back in November last year.
Customers can sign up for Mobile Connect via two options. They can click on a Mobile Connect logo in a website or app to sign up, or they can sign up directly with their telco.
The phone number that they use to log in would have to correspond with the one tagged to their phone’s sim card. For higher security apps such as banking services, an additional PIN number may be required.
And in case their phone goes missing, customers can contact their respective telcos to disable Mobile Connect.
“This marks the first time the industry has come together to work on a solution that brings convenience to both business owners and consumers. Seamless, secure and convenient buying experiences are real currency in our increasingly digital economy,” said Yuen Kuan Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, in an official press statement.
“With the adoption of Mobile Connect, Singtel Dash can take secure log-ins to the next level…such convenience will help accelerate the adoption for mobile payments and is a boon for the mobile payments industry,” said Gan Siok Hoon, Vice President of mCommerce at Singtel Consumer Singapore.
Mobile Connect currently has been launched by 52 operators in 29 countries.
