Startups are hard, but that doesn’t mean it’s not filled with moments of joy. Here are a couple of gems

Remember, hunny, that time we spent so much time together we got married?

And what’s the deal with those wacky t-shirts?

Startup: Lumiere32
Storyteller: Dr.Priti Bhole, Founder and COO (wife)
Raman Chauhan, Founder and Managing director (husband)

Raman: The moment we got the platform ready, we thought that, OK, this is the only thing we had left. Let’s get married. Get the execution on time.

Kevin: Were you together beforehand.

Raman: Yes we were together for five years.

Priti: But we had no plans for marriage, but we were spending so much time together we though, let’s get married first.

Raman: [Laughter] This is the only roadblock for Indian Founders. So let’s get it done and we can execute our plan.

Kevin: Can you tell the proposal story?

Priti: There was no proposal. We just got married. [Laughs]. We didn’t plan much for the wedding. Within two months we just thought and got married. And then the second day we started with our work again.

Kevin: How long have you been married?

Priti: Two years plus. We have a baby, and our baby is also two years old now.

Kevin: Was there any emotions about getting married and also doing this startup?

Raman: For me, I come from a background where my family always supports my decisions. So I think this decision, they just ask me, “Whatever you want to do. If you want to take more time that is fine.” So I said, “This is really what I want to do”. Wedding and then startup.

Priti: For me, I am the one making the decisions in my own life. Whatever I decide, my family just accepts that. So when I made the decision to have my own startup, I didn’t have a second thought. I just left my well-paying MNC job and started this.

Kevin: Have you gone on your honeymoon yet?

Raman: No.
Priti: Not yet.

Kevin: So two-and-a-half years later no honeymoon?

Raman: No, no honeymoon haha.

Kevin: So will there be a honeymoon?

Priti: Im not sure [laughs]

Raman: The moment we reach millions of GMV

Priti: Yeah [laughs]

The story behind our wacky shirts

Startup: Matemate
Storytellers: Henry Ng and Tay Mei Yuen

Kevin: What is the math problem?

Henry: So it is the square root of -1 is the imaginary number ‘i’, two to the third power is 8, the sum symbol and pie. So it’s… I ate some pie.

It’s basically to lure people into asking question because that’s the whole point of our site, to ask questions.

Kevin: What’s the point of the Nike symbol?

Henry: Oh actually we can’t use the Nike symbol. [Turns around]. This is our logo.

It’s just an eye-catcher.

Kevin: Do you have any funny stories about the design?

Mei Yuen: So it’s very eye-catching. We wanted a t-shirt that was fun and had something to do with math. This is fantastic.

Henry: And to trigger conversations, so exactly like what just happened now.

Mei Yuen: Although we have friends who keep telling us we shouldn’t be using the Nike logo. [Laughter].
