Hong Kong-based Beyond Ventures leads US$3M funding round for Mapxus – Tech In Asia

Hong Kong-based venture capital firm Beyond Ventures announced that it is leading a US$3 million funding round for Mapxus, a local indoor mapping solutions provider, Tech In Asia reported.

Mapxus plans to use the funding to support R&D, sales and marketing, and operational functions.

It is also looking forward to expand to Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Founded in 2018 by Maphive Technology, Mapxus uses universal multisensing, positioning, and AI to generate indoor maps.

The service works with various industry sectors, government bodies, non-governmental organisations, and social enterprises.

Traveloka launches movie ticket booking service in Thailand – Press Release

Southeast Asian traveltech giant Traveloka today announced the launch of a movie ticket booking service for its users in Thailand.

The service was launched through a partnership with movie theatre operator Major Cineplex.

“This launch also showcases the importance of Thailand and the inroads that we have made in this exciting market. We will continue to bring forth more exciting products and services in Thailand to further establish Traveloka as its comprehensive travel and lifestyle platform,” said Henry Hendrawan, President, Traveloka Group Operations, in a press statement.

Paytm to invest US$70M in early-stage startups – Dealstreet Asia

Indian digital payments company Paytm announced that it plans to invest INR500 crore (US$70 million) in early-stage startups, Dealstreet Asia wrote.

According to the report, the company typically invests INR200-250 crore every year in intellectual properties or companies building complementary technologies. It will also focus on AI and big data solutions.

In the past, Paytm had invested in Insider, Nearbuy, Loginext, Ticket New, Hungerbox, Nightstay, QRQL, and RecruiterGrid, among the few.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba announced that leading FMCG brands L’Oreal and Nestle are among the “biggest winners” of annual online shopping holiday Singles’ Day, Reuters reported.

Chinese online shoppers are purchasing food supplements, facial masks, and baby milk powder during the event.

The event itself brought in a record CNY268.4 billion (US$38.38 billion) in sales, more than six times the amount of online sales made in the United States on Black Friday last year.
