Grab’s latest innovation in the healthcare sector GrabHealth, a result of its partnership with Ping An Good Doctor, has started to make itself available for selected users in Indonesia.

GrabHealth is the result of a joint venture between Grab and Ping An which focusses on providing O2O healthcare solutions in Southeast Asia. The company is listed as PT Good Doctor Technology in the Ministry of Communications and Informatics as an online medical service provider.

It is safe to say that Good Doctor is a new player in the Indonesian healthtech scene that is ready to compete with incumbents such as Halodoc, Alodokter, and SehatQ.

The platform provides features such as chat, medicine purchase, healthcare content, as well as medical records and transactions. They are all available on the Grab platform without the need for downloading other apps.

The doctor consultation service is available in two options: A free consultation with in-house GP and a specialist of GP consultation with partner hospitals. The second option is available for a fee, starting from IDR15,000 (US$1) per 24-hour.

For medicine delivery service, GrabHealth is working with partner-pharmacists such as K24. There is a possibility for the platform to add more partners for greater reach.

The Indonesian healthcare industry remains fragmented with strict regulations that are not innovation-friendly. With the rise of new players in the healthtech sector, the government has recently issued a regulation on telemedicine service provider (The Ministry of Health Regulation No. 20 Year 2019).

We have written about industry players’ comments on the regulation in this article. Generally, they agreed that telemedicine services are not meant to replace diagnosis process. They are instead meant to facilitate the process for patients in rural areas.
