Sure, the iPhone 7 is an easy choice, but there are some awesome phones out there to replace the exploding Note7

pixel FINAL

So the unthinkable has happened. Samsung has announced that it is stopping the sale and production of the Galaxy Note7.

Owners of the Galaxy Note7 need to fast-forward through the five stages of grief and go straight to acceptance. The question is: which phone should they get to replace their new s’more-makers?

Disclaimer: I’m an Apple fan. Yeah, Steve Jobs is dead and his reality distortion field no longer works, but I still believe the iPhone offers the best and smoothest experience on a smartphone. Sure, the iPhone is so mainstream that it is kind of boring now, but at least it does not explode, right?

To avoid being biased, I’ll take a look at some of the best non-Apple alternatives to your Galaxy Note 7.  I won’t claim to be an expert, but based on tech reviews and frantic Google searches, here are five non-Apple phones for your consideration.

Google Pixel

Speaking of Google, the hottest phone going is the Pixel and its brawnier brother the Pixel XL. The first ‘Made by Google’ smartphone is not out yet, but it has everyone feelin’ excited. It is the first smartphone with the Google Assistant built in, plus it boasts of a long-lasting, fast-charging battery, an awesome camera, and unlimited storage for photos and videos.

Critics might say the Pixel is Google’s attempt to out-Apple Apple. Not only is Google making this the reference phone for Android (RIP Nexus!) and ensuring that it’s designed to its strictest specifications, but Google is building a whole hardware and software ecosystem for future generations.

Yes, the phone is being manufactured by HTC, but this is as Googley as a Google phone can get. Incidentally, Huawei might have missed a huge opportunity with this one, as they were originally supposed to build the devices.

LG V20

LG usually receives great reviews for its smartphones, but somehow never really gets the kind of hype that Apple and Samsung enjoy. Maybe now LG can grab more of the spotlight it deserves.

The good news for LG fans is that the LG V20 is consistently touted as an excellent replacement for the Galaxy Note7.

While it doesn’t have the S Pen, the LG V20 goes toe-to-toe with top-tier specs of the Galaxy Note7, including sporting a badass 5.7-inch Quad High Definition display and owning the distinction of being the first smartphone with Quad DAC for cleaner playback.

More importantly, it is the first phone to come out with Android Nougat, the latest Android OS, right out of the box. Time to consider switching to LG.

Huawei Mate 9

Huawei will unveil its new flagship phone, the Mate 9, on November 3 in Munich, Germany. If the leaked images are true, the Mate 9 will come out in two versions: the standard version and an alternative with a dual-edge curved display, similar to the Galaxy Note7.

Rumor also has it that the dual-edge curved display version, codenamed Long Island, will have a 2K screen that supports Google’s Daydream VR platform.

The bad news is that Long Island might only be available in China.

Of course, if patience is not a forte, consider Huawei’s current model, the Mate 8, which has a stunning 6-inch Full HD screen, a 4000 mAh high-capacity battery, and boasts a Kirin 950 chip with SmartPower technology.

OnePlus 3

The Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has been making waves after the OnePlus 3 earned glowing reviews as a high-end smartphone at an affordable price. And the phone is usually cited as a contender for replacing a smoldering Galaxy Note7.

The OnePlus 3 has a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, a quadcore Snapdragon 820 processor, and a USB Type-C port that offers a quick charging feature called Dash Charging. The phone’s charging system allows it to be cooler while it’s plugged in, resulting in better heat handling, which should be music to the ears of Galaxy Note7 owners.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

What? Replace Samsung with Samsung? For those who have not sworn off the brand, one of the contenders for replacing the Note7 is actually its kid brother, the Galaxy S7 Edge.

It has a stunning 5.5-inch Quad HD curved display — which should ease some of the pain of losing the Note7 — a 12MP camera with improved auto-focus to help take great photos in all conditions, and an IP68 rating for water resistance.

Plus, let’s face it: the Galaxy S7 Edge is a looker, and its relatively narrow and light body makes it more comfortable to hold with one hand. So if getting another Samsung phone doesn’t cause anxiety-induced sweats, the Galaxy S7 Edge might be the perfect fit.

So there we have it: five non-Apple smartphones to replace the charcoal that was the Galaxy Note7.

Did we miss any other phones worth considering? Let us know in the comments.

Yes, even if you end up buying an iPhone 7 Plus.
