Wantedly has built its brand by helping employees test a company’s culture before moving into the more serious parts of the interview process

Company culture is something that needs careful deliberation. Regardless of the stage, the culture defines the environment and influences every aspect of the company. Making sure that the team is aligned in terms of vision and goal is essential in ensuring a startup succeeds.

But what about tactical steps? How can a Founder ensure that the company alignment is present for future employees. What about figuring out if someone is a good culture fit?

The old way was to hire and hope that the whole situation would sort itself out. That is until Wantedly came into the picture.

Originally launched in June 2012 by Akiko Naka, Wantedly is a social recruiting platform that allows users to find interesting jobs based on their social graphs. Individuals can meet based on passion and values rather than just money or benefits.

Today, the platform has over 200,000 companies on board, from Airbnb, Buzzfeed and Dropbox to local startups like Oddle and BoxGreen.

Individuals can indicate their interest in the company and schedule in-person visits to get a feel for the company culture. Both parties can then proceed to follow-up after they’ve talked to one another.
