In its quest to make a social impact by helping women get orgasm, the startup expands its portfolio with a new offering
Vibease is known for its amazing product that all couples in long-distance relationships need — a remote control vibrator that comes bundled with an app to enable video chat.
The startup has now decided to expand its market to single ladies with the launch of a new feature.
“So we asked [single women], ‘How do you use the product?’ and we found out that they like to listen to erotica to read romance novels,” Vibease CEO and Co-founder Dema Tio told e27 over phone. “We went back to the office and started brainstorming, then we went back to them again and ask them, ‘what if we can make your fantasy comes to life?’” he added.

The new feature is kind of an audiobook that women can listen to when using the vibrator. But that is not all. “When the audiobook says that ‘I’m touching you right here softly,’ then the vibrator will vibrate slowly, and if the guy in the audiobook says ‘harder’, then it will vibrate harder,” Tio said.
“That’s where we give an immersive experience, so that single women who are not using our products for long distance thing can just put the device inside their pants, don’t have to touch it at all, close their eyes, put on the headphone, and just listen to the audiobook,” he explained.

“As the storyline gets more intense, the device will react accordingly,” he added.
The audiobooks will start off as a feature in Vibease’s current app. Tio added that the startup is working on building a separate app especially for the new feature.
It will begin promoting the new product by launching a video in the third week of September.

As tech gets personal
Launched in 2012, Vibease’s journey began when Tio tried to figure out ways to maintain physical intimacy with his wife when the couple lived in two different countries. He decided to take the project seriously when he heard from a sexologist that 50 per cent of women never experienced orgasm.
“I had a good career in investment banking (hedge fund) in Boston, so I never thought that I’d be quitting my job to sell sex toys!” he laughed.

“I know it sounds weird but I also believe that our product can make a social impact. Because sex is part of human basic needs and if we don’t fulfill this basic need, something is missing in life,” he said.
Ever since then, the startup has achieved milestones, including partnerships with some hardware companies.
“We already have a few other companies that use our technology, using our app to control their device. This is good for us because we can really focus on building the app and the user experience, while the vibrator companies can focus on what they’re really good at, which is manufacturing,” Tio explained.

“To me it’s like a win-win solution,” he added.
Looking ahead, the co-founder believes that the world IoT is going to become more integrated. “Five to 10 years from now, a lot of electronics consumer product will be connected to smartphone. They even have a fridge, coffee machine connected to Wi-Fi. For every device that you have, you need to have one app. Can you imagine having 10 apps on your phone to control all your appliances?” he asked.

“I think they have to consolidate this. And I don’t know who’s going to be the winner. Everyone has their own standard, nobody wants to work with other company, except for a few, I guess,” he concluded.
As for Vibease, the startup aims to remain focussed on its mission to become the go-to platform for all things related to sexual wellness.
“Because right now there are so many connected products out there, and we want to connect them into one app. Again we try to focus so much on women sexual wellness, so anything to do with women sexual wellness, we want to go together with that,” he concluded.
