Samirah Muzaffar and her ex-husband have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan, according to a report in The Star Online.
The duo were arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday to help with their investigations, the report said, citing Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat.
The police said they picked up “a 43-year-old man at Sepang at around 1am” and an hour later “arrested the 43-year-old woman at Taman Tun Dr Ismail”.
The investigation team has obtained a seven-day remand for the two individuals from the court.
The arrest comes about a couple of weeks after Muzaffar issued a press statement alleging inconsistencies in the investigation into Hassan’s death. She blamed authorities for keeping her and her family in the dark about the investigation, and alleged disparities between media reports on the death and official statements from the fire and rescue department and the police.

Hassan passed away on June 14 after fire caught his bedroom at a two-storey house in Mutiara Damansara, with burnt marks on 30 per cent of his body. The cause of fire was initially thought to be an accident, when his mobile phone exploded during charging.
A couple of weeks later, the Malaysian police reclassified the death as possible murder, following a forensic investigation report by the Fire and Rescue Department, which cited suspected foul play in the death. It was reported that traces of petrol were found in the deceased’s room following a lab report by the department.
Samirah is a senior executive at the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation, later criticised the authorities.
