It is only available on one flagship device
Chinese consumer tech giant Xiaomi, in partnership with banking card corporation China UnionPay, has officially rolled out its new NFC-based mobile payment system Mi Pay in China, taking advantage of the market’s burgeoning mobile payment space.
It joins the ranks of other smartphone makers Huawei, Samsung and Apple — all of whom have launched similar services earlier this year.
Now the catch: it is only available on its flagship smartphone Mi 5. So users who bought its entry level phones such as the popular Redmi 2 will not stand to benefit.
Apart from that, cardholders from over 20 Chinese banks including the Bank of China will be able to use the service. Additionally, users rescinding in six major cities in China will also be able to use Mi Pay to pay for public transportation services.
