It involves your dirty laundry

The Indonesian Independence Day is coming real soon, and businesses have came up with unique ways to participate in the festivity.

While ride-hailing service Grab launched a photography competition (which has invited an unlikely guest star), on-demand housework service Ahlijasa decided to host a competition that will give winner access to free laundry service for one year through their platform.

They also have the opportunity to win various vouchers from Travelio and KlikDaily.

How? By taking part in a laundry packing competition held by the startup.

Called Merdeka dari Nyuci (“Freedom from Washing Clothes”), the competition requires users to pack in as many laundry as possible into laundry boxes provided by Ahlijasa. Users then have to book for laundry services through the Ahlijasa app, and within the period of two weeks, Ahlijasa staff will count and decide the user with the highest number of clothes submitted.

Held between August 7 to 21, the competition is only for Ahlijasa users in Jakarta, Depok, South Tangerang, and Bekasi.

According to CEO Jay Jayawijayaningtyas, the competition was inspired by Ahlijasa users themselves who had been using the provided laundry boxes to showcase their creativity.

“So we thought, why don’t we just turn it into a competition? So there’ll be prizes for the most creative,” he said in a statement.

Founded in November 2015, the Jakarta-based startup is a participant of the GnB Accelerator programme held by Fenox VC and Infocom. They are set to present their business model, market size, and strategy on a Demo Day event on August 19.

It claims to have received a ‘six-digit’ seed funding from an angel investor in Singapore and have won the Startupedia Asean Challenge 2016.
